Pasireotide (SOM230) is a long-acting cyclohexapeptide somatostatin analogue that can increase the agonist activity of somatostatin receptors. The pKi for sst1/2/3/4/5 are 8.2/9.0/ 9.1/<7.0/9.9. It can inhibit the secretion of GH, IGF-I and ACTH, and can be used to study acromegaly and Cushing’s disease. It also has antisecretory, antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activities.

Signifor LAR (pasireotide) is a somatostatin analog.

Specific LAR is specifically indicated for the treatment of patients with acromegaly, whose response to surgery is insufficient and/or is not an option for surgery.

Signifor LAR is provided as an injection suspension for intramuscular injection. The FDA’s approval of Signifor LAR for acromegaly is based on two studies in two populations.
