Introduction of Compstatin
Compstatin, a 13-residue cyclic peptide, is an effective inhibitor of complement system C3 with species specificity. Compstatin binds to C3 of baboons, and is resistant to proteolysis in baboons’ blood (similar to humans). Compstatin only inhibits the activation of primate complement system. Compstatin has IC50 values of 63μM and 12μM for classical and bypass pathways of complement, respectively.
